Why Support York Cares?

A change in the funding landscape coupled with the cost of living crisis means that it’s an incredibly tough time for small charities like York Cares. We need to diversify our income and raise more funds to remain sustainable. Without increasing our income, we may face closure in the coming years.

Fundraising Opportunities

1. Make a donation through Just Giving

Donate the cost of your Christmas party and support our Shimmer and Shine Festive Social Club, forego the catering for a meeting and enable us to provide refreshments at a coffee morning, or match the cost of a staff celebration and allow us to provide much needed 1:1 reading support for primary school pupils in the city.

2. Shop with easyfundraising and help York Cares

This is a fundraising platform that works with over 8000 brands to generate donations for charities and community groups when you shop. Brands pay a % donation every time you shop through the easyfundraising platform at no additional charge to you. Just download the app or you can also add a browser extension to shop online.

3. Make us your nominated charity

Partner with us to align your organisation to a good cause. If you have a Charity of the Year or other opportunities to support a nominated charity, please consider York Cares. We will highlight your support via our social media and communications with our members.

4. Community Events

Participate in or host a community event such as a bake sale, charity sporting event such as a run or football match, or host a sponsored challenge. Not only do these activities raise vital funds for York Cares, they also provide an opportunity to bring people in the community together.

Create a Just Giving page for your event that links to York Cares.

What will your donation fund?
  • £10 – cover the cost of collecting a donation from one of our employer members and delivering it to the community partner during one of our Campaigns
  • £40 – cover the cost of a Social Club contributing to reducing loneliness and isolation in older and younger neighbours in the city
  • £250 – cover the cost of 25 DBS checks for employee-volunteers taking part in Right to Read, a cost usually covered by York Cares
  • £500 – cover the cost of our annual Summer Sparkle or Shimmer and Shine social clubs where we come together for a celebration with over 70 members of the community with the aim of positively contributing to their wellbeing
  • £750 – sponsor our next Environment & Sustainability Week
  • £1,000 – enable us to host a Project Dare activity to challenge pupils to apply their academic learning to solve a real-world problem to help raise secondary school pupils’ aspirations
  • £5,000 – sponsor our next Big Community Challenge
