Introducing Caitlin Johnston

We were delighted to welcome Caitlin to the team at the beginning of the month. Caitlin has settled in brilliantly and has got completely stuck into the Environment and Sustainability programme.

Caitlin writes, “Having been at York Cares for just a few weeks, I have already had an amazing experience. As a part of my year in industry, I have taken a year out to complete this part of my degree as an undergraduate Business and Management student at the University of York. It’s already clear that this was one of the best decisions I could have made to develop my skills while gaining a deeper understanding of how a non-profit organisation maximises its impact on the community.

In my short time here, I have organised a few Community Challenges and started planning the Big Community Challenge as part of the Environment and Sustainability programme. This role has allowed me to connect with community partners and volunteers from around York, giving me valuable insights into the brilliant local community. Although joining a new organisation was initially daunting, I have quickly gained confidence in myself and my abilities.

I am certain that this next year at York Cares will be more fulfilling than I could have imagined. Especially from having the opportunity to work side-by-side the other opportunities at York Cares such as Aspirations and Social Connections who both have a tremendous impact on York’s community.

In the coming weeks, I am excited for the Big Community Challenge and seeing different businesses come together to make a significant impact on the landscape, benefiting both the people and the wildlife of York. I also look forward to continuing to grow my skills by working with our community partners and volunteers, witnessing the positive changes we bring about together.”
